Access surveys

Woods for All produced several access surveys to determine the accessibility of woods for disabled people, and to suggest improvements and upgrades to facilities at these woods.

All Abilities Access Survey

In June 2001, the Cairngorms Partnership (now known as the Cairngorms National Park Authority) commissioned Woods for All to undertake a survey of access needs and opportunities in the Cairngorms for the Cairngorms National Park, which opened in September 2003. The exercise lasted four months and involved local groups with a range of disabilities who visited sixteen sites to assess their level of accessibility. Overall, more than 70 people took part in the survey.

The results of the survey were published in a report by the Cairngorms Partnership called All Abilities Access Survey. There is also a video film in VHS format which contains footage gathered during the survey and which complements the report.

Note that the report and video are not available through Reforesting Scotland. Instead, please contact the Cairngorms National Park Authority by e-mailing , or telephoning +44 (0)1479 873535 for more information.

Access for All

In 2002, Woods for All undertook access surveys for woods in the Grampian and Lothian and Borders regions, as part of Treefest Scotland 2002. This also involved disabled people and others involved in woodland work visiting several sites across each region.

The results of the surveys were published in two separate reports called Access for All: Grampian and Access for All: Lothian and Borders. An audio cassette for blind and visually impaired people also accompanies each report.

Each report costs £1. This price includes the cassette and postage and packaging. Generally, we can only send reports within the United Kingdom, but it may be possible to send them to you if you are based outside the United Kingdom; please contact Reforesting Scotland for more information.

To order a report, please send either a cheque payable to 'Reforesting Scotland', or a postal order, to the address shown at the bottom of this page, along with a list of the report(s) that you wish to receive. We regret that we are unable to accept credit or debit cards as a form of payment.
